BLUES Local Group Entertains For Rushees Phi Mu Sorority Opens Week With Party At River On Big Day Gamma Gamma chapter of Phi Mu fraternity opened a week of formal rush days for the six local national sorority chapters on Monday with a Penthouse Party at the Red Fez Country Club on the Catawba River. Open house was held at the house on Sorority Row during the morn ing and early afternoon. Rushees, members, and alumnae then went out for the party. A floor show Was given during the evening. Place Cards were in the nature of a sky line, and the club was decorated to resemble a penthouse with the sky line in the distance. Open house was held during the morning at the house on Sorority Row on the Queens-Chicora campus. In the after noon, rushees were entertaiimd at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. De- Mar on Selwyn Avenue, at which time refreshments of sandwiches, cof fee and mints were served. Miss Florence Lerch spoke at the banquet, and Miss Betty Honeycutt of Charlotte sang and danced. Avon Players Coming Nov. 8 The Avon Players will give “The Taming of the Shrew” in the Queens- Chicora College auditorium on No vember 8, it was recently announced hy Mrs. Virginia Miller Agnew. Kappa Delta Gives Dinner During the first freshman chapel jrogram of the year, held on Thurs day, September 22, at the regular chapel hour in the Queens-Chicora college auditorium, Mrs. Virginia Miller Agnew spoke to the freshmen on “Getting Adjusted to College ,ife.” This marked the first in a series of programs. Mrs. Agnew first ex- ilained to the freshmen the meaning of orientation. She said, “There are three main adjustments to college life to be made by each student. They are physical, intellectual, and social.” In speaking of the physical adjust ment, she said that it was necessary to become adjusted to the campus and its surroundings, to eating and sleeping regularly, and to exercising the right amount. In connection with the intellectual adjustment, Mrs. Agnew asked the question, “Will you become an in quiring open-minded searcher for truth or a sponge absorbing only what is brought within your mental reach?” She said that it was essen tial in the social adjustment to be come accustomed to the entire group as well as to the individual and smaller groups. Theta Gamma chapter of Chi Omega social sorority entertained last Tues day at the second formal rush day of the six local chapters at Queens- Chicora College with a hayride and picnic supper at Dr. Myers Hunter’s cabin on the Catawba River. Open house was held during the morning at the little bungalow on Sorority Row. Rushees, actives, and alumnae left at about 2:30 o’clock for the river. The party was in the nature of a rural roundup. Favors given the guests were corncob pipes and red bandannas. Alpha Omicron chapter of Kappa Delta national social sorority enter tained yesterday at their formal rush day with a buffet style supper at the Wooden Bowl farm on the Lawyers’ Road in the nature of a country dinner. Open house was held at the minia ture White House on Sorority Row on Queens-Chicora campus from ten o’clock until one. The rushees ac tives, and alumnae left about three o'clock for the supper. Place cards of cork with the names burnt into the cork were used. A skit was present ed during supper. Afterwards, the group returned to the house for a friendship circle, at which time Frances Riddle sang the “White Rose of Kappa Delta” and presented each rushee with a corsage of white roses. From day to day its worth will gradually dawn upon you As you develop in scholarship you will discover its quickening influence on your intellectual life. Its moral standards and ideals will likewise impress themselves on you. College should develop in you an intense reverence for things religious. As you participate in athletics and stu dent activities you will likewise feel the throbbing of the life of the col lege in your soul. Open house will be held this morn ing from ten until one o’clock in the little brick lodge on Sorority^ Row on the back campus. At two o’clock rushees, actives, and alumnae will go to the home of Mrs. Charles J. Stokes on Queens Road for a friendly get- together and refreshment. At five o’clock, a banquet will be held at the Hotel Charlotte in the blue and white room. Cut flowers will deco rate the table, and the lighted pin of Alpha Delta Pi will be above the head of the table.
